Overview
The Singer's Gun is a taut, atmospheric thriller from Emily St. John Mandel, the New York Times bestselling author of Station Eleven. Following Anton Waker as he tries to escape the fallout of a shadowy family business, this novel weaves together crime, identity and the quiet devastation of compromised loyalty. Spanning Brooklyn, Montreal and the Italian coast, it is a literary suspense novel that rewards close attention, perfect for readers who love character-driven crime fiction with real emotional depth.
About the Book
Anton Waker has spent years quietly building a respectable life, distancing himself from the counterfeit document business he once ran with his cousin Aria. He has a new job, a fiancée, and an office with his name on the door. But a routine security check unravels the careful fiction he has constructed, and when his cousin calls in one final favour, Anton finds himself drawn back into a world he thought he had escaped, with a shipment to collect in Italy and a past that refuses to stay buried.
As Anton's double life begins to collapse, the novel widens to follow Alex Broden, a federal investigator tracking a people-smuggling operation, and Elena, a young woman caught up in events beyond her control. Moving between New York, Montreal and the Italian coastline, and shifting across different points in time, Mandel builds a quietly devastating story about the lies people tell to survive and the cost of looking away. Written with the precise, melancholic prose that would later define Station Eleven, The Singer's Gun is a compact, propulsive novel about love, complicity and the impossibility of ever truly starting over.

Clarke Award; it was later adapted into an acclaimed limited TV series. The Glass Hotel was a finalist for the Scotiabank Giller Prize.
