Overview
The Tattooist of Auschwitz is Heather Morris's internationally bestselling novel based on the true story of Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew imprisoned at Auschwitz-Birkenau and forced to tattoo identification numbers onto fellow prisoners. Amid unimaginable horror, Lale falls in love with Gita, a young woman waiting in line to be tattooed, and vows to survive the camp and save her too. Now adapted into a major Sky TV series, this paperback brings one of the most extraordinary true love stories of the Holocaust to a new generation of readers.

About the Book
In 1942, Lale Sokolov arrived at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Determined to survive, he was given the grim task of tattooing incoming prisoners with the numbers that would strip them of their identity. It was during this work that he first saw Gita, a terrified young woman waiting in line, and fell in love with her instantly. Determined not only to survive but to protect Gita too, Lale used his relatively privileged position to trade for food, medicine and hope, risking his life daily to help others in the camp. Based on years of interviews Heather Morris conducted with Lale Sokolov before his death, this is a searingly honest, deeply human account of hope, love and quiet resistance amid the darkest chapter of the twentieth century. It has become one of the bestselling works of Holocaust fiction of the modern era, praised for balancing unflinching historical detail with a genuinely uplifting love story. This edition is a brand-new paperback, perfect for readers discovering the story for the first time or fans of the Sky TV adaptation wanting to revisit the source material.
