Overview
Meet Tiger Days, an animal-loving nine-year-old whose visits to her grandmother's Willowgate House always turn into an adventure. Across four heart-warming stories, Tiger rescues a stray cat, unravels a garden mystery with her friend Tom, nurses an injured otter, and hatches abandoned duck eggs. Written by bestselling author Sarah Lean and illustrated throughout in charming black-and-white line art, this collection suits confident young readers who love gentle, animal-themed stories with real emotional depth.
About the Books
The Tiger Days series follows nine-year-old Tiger during stays with her grandmother, May Days, at the rambling, animal-friendly Willowgate House. In The Secret Cat, Tiger cares for a baby warthog while tracking down a mysterious stray. In The Midnight Foxes, a strange tunnel appears under the shed and eggs keep vanishing, so Tiger and her friend Tom turn detective. The Riverbank Otter sees Tiger nursing Lucky, an injured otter, back to health while searching for the perfect spot to release him — a journey that teaches her about letting go. In Duckling Days, Tiger is trusted to raise four abandoned duck eggs in her grandmother's warm kitchen before helping the ducklings find a home outdoors. Each story stands alone but shares the same endearing characters, cosy rural setting, and message about kindness, responsibility and the natural world. Sarah Lean's gentle, lyrical prose and short chapters make these books ideal first solo reads for children moving on from picture books.
