A must-have collector's hardback for any Middle-earth library.
About the Book
Unfinished Tales is a rich collection of narratives ranging in time from the Elder Days of Middle-earth right through to the end of the War of the Ring, offering readers of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings a wealth of background material and untold stories. The book delves deep into the realm of Middle-earth, covering elements such as The Quest of Erebor, in which Gandalf gives his own lively account of how he came to send the Dwarves to the celebrated party at Bag-End; the dramatic emergence of the sea-god Ulmo before the eyes of Tuor on the coast of Beleriand; and a detailed description of the military organisation of the Riders of Rohan. Unfinished Tales also contains the only surviving story of the long ages of Númenor before its downfall, along with everything known about the mysterious Five Wizards, the Palantíri, and the legend of Amroth. Each tale is accompanied by a short commentary from editor Christopher Tolkien, helping readers connect the fragments to the wider tapestry of his father's legendarium. This special 40th-anniversary edition elevates the reading experience further, with 18 breathtaking full-colour paintings from three of the most celebrated Tolkien illustrators working today, revealing the First, Second and Third Ages of Middle-earth as never before, all housed within a beautifully produced illustrated slipcase.
