About the Author
Daphne du Maurier (1907–1989) was an English novelist and short story writer, born in London into a family of writers and actors. She published her first novel in 1931, but Rebecca made her one of the most popular authors of her generation. Many of her works, set largely in her beloved Cornwall, were adapted into acclaimed films, including Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds and Nicolas Roeg's Don't Look Now. She was appointed a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 1969.
