Overview
What Does Jeremy Think? is Suzanne Heywood's Sunday Times bestselling biography of her late husband Jeremy Heywood, the civil servant who served four Prime Ministers over more than 25 years. Begun as a joint project between the couple in the final months of Jeremy's life and completed by Suzanne after his death from lung cancer in 2018, this paperback offers a rare, intimate account of how modern British government really works, told from inside 10 Downing Street and the Cabinet Office.

About the Book
Jeremy Heywood rose from a young civil servant asking awkward questions to become the first and only Permanent Secretary of 10 Downing Street, the Cabinet Secretary, and Head of the Home Civil Service. Along the way he advised Prime Ministers from Thatcher to May through economic crises, referendums, and constitutional upheaval, quietly shaping decisions that defined a generation of British politics. Drawing on Jeremy's own memories, his private papers and over 200 interviews, Suzanne Heywood pieces together an unprecedented insider's view of Whitehall at its most consequential moments, from the financial crash to Brexit negotiations. The book has been widely praised as essential reading for anyone wanting to understand how power, policy and personality intersect at the top of government, with the Guardian calling it invaluable for understanding modern Whitehall. It is as much a portrait of a marriage and a family navigating public life and illness as it is a political history, giving readers both the machinery of government and the human cost behind it. For readers who enjoy political biography, civil service history and behind-the-scenes accounts of Downing Street, this paperback edition delivers a compelling, deeply researched narrative that has resonated with critics and general readers alike since its release.
