Overview
Step into the phantasmagoric world of Oz reimagined through Gregory Maguire's Wicked Years quartet. This brand-new paperback box set gathers all four novels - Wicked, Son of a Witch, A Lion Among Men and Out of Oz - into one essential collection. Following Elphaba and the generations after her, this is dark, witty, allegorical storytelling for readers who love their fairy tales subverted and unforgettable.
About the Books
The saga begins with Wicked, recasting the Wicked Witch of the West as Elphaba - a green-skinned, sharp-minded outsider whose life at Shiz University becomes a battle against prejudice, tyranny and destiny. Son of a Witch follows Liir, rumoured to be Elphaba's son, nursed back to health by the novice Candle while questioning whether he has inherited his mother's power or merely her legacy of suspicion. A Lion Among Men turns to Brrr, the Cowardly Lion, whose search for the truth about Elphaba collides with the dying oracle Yackle as civil war creeps across Oz. The quartet closes with Out of Oz, where Munchkinland faces invasion, Glinda is under house arrest, and Elphaba's granddaughter Rain comes of age and takes up the broom in a land tearing itself apart. Across all four novels, Maguire weaves fantasy, satire and moral complexity, transforming L. Frank Baum's classic Oz into a richly political, character-driven world. This brand-new paperback set suits first-time readers wanting the complete story in order, or long-time fans wanting a fresh, matching edition.
